Intermediate I Finnish language

This course builds on earlier foundational skills in pronunciation, vocabulary, and basic conversational interaction.

What you’ll learn

Students will continue strengthening their grammar and written literacy while expanding vocabulary and practical communication skills. The course emphasizes a variety of real-life communicative situations and introduces more complex sentence structures. Students will also begin comparing Finnish phrasing with English to build awareness of stylistic and structural differences between the two languages.

Requirements

Some previous study of Finnish required, either from having progressed from Beginner or from having previous exposure such as relatives, or having lived a while in Finland.

To enroll in our Finnish language courses, students must demonstrate proficiency in English. This ensures all participants can fully engage with the course materials and instructions, which are provided in English.

Fees

Tuition for the year is $340; the first attended semester in an academic year will be $180 and the second semester is discounted to 160$.

Payment is expected no later than the second class meeting of each semester.

Class placement

After registration, students will be placed in the appropriate class level based on their current proficiency in Finnish.
